The turn of the century has seen many incredible innovations in the production and development of drum n’ bass. Over the past five years the genre has been broken, recast, and mutated into perhaps the most aggressive and visceral manifestation of music today. The Atlanta-based artistsEvol Intent are among the greatest purveyors of this incendiary, modern jungle sound. Operating as a three piece power troop, Knick, Gigantor and the Enemy have produced some of the most ephemeral and progressive drum n’ bass to date. The outfit’s uncompromising and inimitable drum tirades left an indelible mark on the U.S. scene and the globe at large. Birthed out of hardcore-punk culture, the trio developed a unique method for wrecking soundsystems. The Evol Intent approach is unmistakable: combine dynamic drum mechanics, razor sharp edits, sawtooth synths and an element of discord resonant of their punk youth. In a very short period of time the group has amassed a substantial discography while recording for their own Evol Intent label as well as numerous prestigious imprints such as Renegade Hardware, Outbreak, and Human.
Dubstep dandy and local bounder, High Rankin is one of the scenes more eccentric artists. His music brims with character and personality that engulfs the listener as well as causing the obvious dance floor riot. He has an excellent moustache and will fight anyone who disagrees. High Rankin signed to Underdogs Management in July 2008 and since then has released his lauded EP’s on Herve’s “Cheap Thrills” label, as well as featuring tracks on Jay Cunning’s new “Sub Slayers label”, with his own Suicide Dub imprint now in full flow. Added to this, he achieved a development publishing deal with Bucks Music Group and his live performances have become highly in demand across the UK, Europe and Russia. Ever the avid remixer, his remixes for Kevin Rudolf, Missy Eliot, B Real (Cypress Hill), Skunk Anansie, Adam Freeland and Amon Tobin have garnered him even further acclaim. His live shows have already gained folklore for their unrelenting heaviness - as well as his own inability to stay put in one place. Get ready because High Rankin and his moustache of epic proportions are going to take over the stage here at CONTROL.
